Ducks
Pekins are the typical large and solid white duck you see everywhere. The male is a bit larger than the female with a little curl on the top of his tail. Both male and female are solid white with orange bills, legs and feet. They enjoy water and love swimming and feeding in the pond. We began raising Pekin ducks only to add some variety to our diets. We learned how quickly Pekins grew to weight and how easily they converted feed to body weight, in fact we discovered that if we free ranged them they didn't have to be fed at all! One of the by-products of the Pekins is the large and delicious eggs they provide year around.

Saxony's
I got into Saxonys quite by accident, a friend had a friend who had some ducklings that needed a home...well you know how that goes. So I bought the10 ducklings just a few days old and now I have Saxonys! Saxony males resemble a Mallard Duck with the exception of the colors. The head of the male is a deep soft gray instead of the green of the Mallard. The females are a soft tan and white and smaller than their male counterparts. They are a very large duck, even bigger than the Pekins. They also mature to weight very fast and do well free ranged without added grain.
Muscovy's
I've had Muscovies on and off since I was a kid. I love the multicolored feathers and the red faces of both male and female. The really exciting part of course is that until the egg hatches you never know what color or colors your going to get! Muscovies are land ducks but can fly quite nicely when they want to and don't require ponds or wading pools. They do require fresh water for bathing and cleaning however. They can roost in trees or camp on the ground, whichever they choose. They are good at building and maintaining their own nests and hatching their ducklings.

These Saxonys were raised by the geese in the picture who continue to be very protective of them. The male Saxonys have the dark gray heads and beautiful russet colored chests. The females are the buff, tan and white ones.
